At the beginning of this month, MERIDIAN had to say farewell to Senior Data Manager, Casey Hilliard, who has accepted a new position at GSTS (Global Spatial Technology Solutions) in Dartmouth, NS. A long-time research support staff at the Institute for Big Data Analytics and an expert in the management and use of AIS vessel-tracking data, Casey will be dearly missed not only by MERIDIAN but by the entire Institute, and we wish him all the best in his new job. Matthew Smith, previously a part-time data scientist with MERIDIAN, has been hired full-time to fill the void left by Casey’s departure. Matt, who is far from unfamiliar with AIS data, will be supporting research groups in accessing and using AIS data for their research projects while also managing compute and data storage infrastructure at the Institute.
